Cricket is a sport that is played with two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is for one team to score more runs than the other team while taking turns batting and fielding.
The basic rules of cricket include:
- The game is played with a bat and ball, and the team that wins the coin toss gets to choose whether to bat or field first.
- The team that is batting tries to score runs by hitting the ball and running between the wickets. The fielding team tries to stop the batting team from scoring runs by catching the ball or running out the batsmen.
- Each team gets to bat and field for a set number of overs, with each over consisting of six deliveries from the bowler.
- If a batsman hits the ball over the boundary without it bouncing, they score six runs. If the ball bounces before going over the boundary, they score four runs.
- If the fielding team dismisses all ten batsmen of the opposing team, the innings is over. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins.
There are many other rules in cricket, including rules about no balls, wides, and LBWs (leg before wicket). The specific rules may also vary slightly depending on the format of the game (Test, One-Day International, T20, etc.)
